Columbia County, NY.

Oliver Samascott, 2nd Generation Owner at Samascott Orchards,1970s.

Much of this newly purchased land already had existing apple orchards on it. With Oliver's care, our apple crop grew significantly in size, which gave way to the introduction of pick-your-own in the late 1960's.

At that time, we had just seven varieties of apples to choose from: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, Cortland, Rome, R.I. Greening, & Idared.

Samascott Orchards is a family owned and operated farm that began in the early 1900's. In the early years, many crops were grown, but dairy products and caring for dairy cows were the main focus.

From the 1940's through the early 1960's, the second generation owner, Oliver Samascott, increased the size of the farm from its original 180 acres to our present 1,000+ acres.

By 1970, the focus of the farm shifted from dairy to apples. We have continually increased our apple selection from the original seven varieties to now more than 70. And although we still raise over 100 black and red Angus cows on our land, we no longer do any milking.

Today, we grow hundreds of varieties of fruits and vegetables ranging from berries to kiwis and cucumbers to pumpkins. We offer many of them to our pick-your-own customers each year!
